Evaporator Case: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Battery.
2. Recover the refrigerant.
3. Remove the engine Air Cleaner (ACL). For additional information, refer to Fuel Delivery and Induction.
4. Remove the nuts and the screws from the windshield washer reservoir/coolant recovery reservoir and reposition the reservoir.
5. Remove the screws and reposition the A/C vacuum reservoir tank and bracket.
6. Disconnect the connector from the speed control servo.
7. Remove the screw and reposition the speed control servo.
8. Disconnect the A/C manifold and tube from the suction accumulator/drier. For additional information, refer to the Spring Lock Couplings Disconnect and Connect general procedure. Spring Lock Coupling Connect and Disconnect Procedure
9. Disconnect the condenser to evaporator tube from the A/C evaporator core. For additional information, refer to the Spring Lock Couplings Disconnect and Connect general procedure. Spring Lock Coupling Connect and Disconnect Procedure
10. Disconnect the electrical connector from the A/C cycling switch.
11. Disconnect the electrical connector from the blower motor.
12. Disconnect the electrical connector from the heater blower motor switch resistor.
13. Remove the support bracket.
14. Disengage the windshield washer hose retainer and position aside.
15. Disconnect the vacuum hose.
16. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the retainer and position aside.
17. Disconnect the vacuum harness connector located in the passenger compartment.
18. Remove the nut located in the passenger compartment.
19. Remove the nuts and remove the evaporator core housing.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the evaporator core housing and retaining nuts.
2. Install the retaining nut in the passenger compartment.
3. Connect the vacuum harness connector in the passenger compartment.
4. install the vacuum hose into the retainer.
5. Connect the vacuum hose to the water diverter valve.
6. Install the windshield washer hose retainer.
7. Install the support bracket.
8. Connect the electrical connectors to the blower motor and the heater blower motor switch resistor.
9. Connect the electrical connector to the A/C cycling switch.
10. Connect the condenser to evaporator tube to the A/C evaporator core. For additional information, refer to the Spring Lock Coupling Disconnect and Connect general procedure. Spring Lock Coupling Connect and Disconnect Procedure
NOTE: New green O-ring seals should be lubricated with PAG Compressor Oil, YN-12-C (F7AZ-19589-DA) or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B. Use of sharp tools should be avoided.
11. Connect the A/C manifold and tube to the suction accumulator/drier. For additional information, refer to the Spring Lock Coupling Disconnect and Connect general procedure. Spring Lock Coupling Connect and Disconnect Procedure
12. Install the speed control servo and connect the electrical connector.
13. Install the A/C vacuum reservoir tank and bracket.
14. Install the windshield washer reservoir/coolant recovery reservoir.
15. Install the engine air cleaner. For additional information, refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction.
16. Connect the battery ground cable.
17. Evacuate and charge the refrigerant system.
