Accumulator HVAC: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

NOTE: Replacement of the suction accumulator/drier is not required when repairing the air conditioning system except when there is physical evidence of system contamination from a failed A/C compressor or damage to the suction accumulator/drier.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable; refer to Battery.
2. Remove the junction block splash shield.







3. Remove the two cable ends from the starter relay.







4. Remove the two bolts and reposition the junction block bracket.
5. Perform the Discharging and Recovery Procedure. Refrigerant Discharging and Recovery procedure








6. Disconnect the A/C cycling switch electrical connector.







7. Disconnect the manifold and tube fitting.







8. Remove the accumulator bracket clamping bolt.







9. Disconnect the suction accumulator/drier spring lock coupling from the A/C evaporator core.







10. Remove the suction accumulator/drier.







11. Remove the A/C cycling switch from the top of the suction accumulator/drier.

INSTALLATION






















1. Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.
^ Service the replacement suction accumulator/drier with the correct amount of PAG Refrigerant Compressor Oil (R-134a Systems) F7AZ-19589-DA (Motorcraft YN-12-C) or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.
