Oil Pump: Service and Repair

Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.





3. Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the engine oil.





4. Remove the oil bypass filter.





5. Remove the bolts.





6. Remove the (1) oil pump drive gear, the (2) oil pump driven gear, the (3) oil pump O-ring seal and the (4) oil pump. Discard the oil pump O-ring seal.
7. Inspect components, if necessary.





8. Inspect the face of the oil pump for flatness.
9. Remove the engine front cover.





10. Remove the plug over the oil pressure relief valve.





11. Remove the oil pressure relieve valve ball and spring and clean the parts.





12. Assemble the oil pressure relief valve ball and spring with a new plug.

13. Note: Lubricate the parts with clean Super Premium SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
