Special Tools:
Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation tube from the valve cover.
3. Disconnect the RH fuel injector electrical connections.
4. Remove the ignition coils.
5. Disconnect the vapor management valve vacuum hose and vacuum canister vacuum harness and lift the fuel charging wiring off the valve cover studs.
6. Remove the generator.
7. Raise and support the vehicle.
8. Remove the RH motor mount nuts.
9. Lower the vehicle
10. Install the special tool on the engine using the generator mounting holes.
11. Install the special tool.
12. CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.
Note: The bolts are part of the valve cover and should not be removed.
Remove the RH valve cover.
^ Fully loosen the bolts.
^ Raise the engine.
^ Remove the valve cover.
^ Inspect the valve cover gasket and clean the mating surface of the cylinder head.
Installation
1. Note: If not secured within four minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with Metal Surface Cleaner F4AZ-19A536-RA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M513392-A. Allow to dry until there is no sign of wetness, of four minutes, whichever is longer. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.
Apply a bead of silicone in two places where the engine front cover meets the cylinder head.
^ Use Silicone Gasket and Sealer F7AZ-19554-EA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M4G323-A4.
2. Position the valve cover and the valve cover gasket on the cylinder head and lower the engine.
3. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.
4. Remove the special tool.
5. Remove the special tool.
6. Raise and support the vehicle.
7. Install the RH motor mount nuts.
8. Lower the vehicle
9. Install the generator.
10. Position the fuel charging wiring onto the valve cover studs and connect the vapor management valve vacuum hose and the vacuum canister vacuum harness.
11. Install the ignition coils.
12. Connect the RH ignition coil electrical connectors.
13. Connect the RH fuel injector electrical connectors.
14. Connect the crankcase ventilation tube to the valve cover.
15. Connect the battery ground cable.
