Balance Shaft: Service and Repair
Removal1. Remove the engine front cover.
2. Remove the synchronizer drive gear.
3. Remove the crankshaft sprocket, camshaft sprocket and timing chain as an assembly.
4. Remove the engine balance shaft drive gear.
5. Remove the timing chain vibration damper.
6. Remove the screws and the engine dynamic balance shaft.
Installation
1. Lubricate the balance shaft bearings with Super Premium SAE-5W-30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G and install the engine dynamic balance shaft.
2. Install the engine balance shaft drive gear.
- The timing marks on the drive and driven gear must align.
3. Install the timing chain vibration damper.
4. Install the crankshaft sprocket, camshaft sprocket and timing chain as an assembly.
- Timing marks on the gears and keyways on the shafts must align.
5. Install the synchronizer drive gear.
6. Install the engine front cover.
