Upper
Removal1. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
2. Remove the engine cover.
3. Disconnect the following ignition coil electrical connections:
- ignition coil electrical connector
- radio ignition interference capacitor electrical connector
4. CAUTION: Spark plug wires must be connected to the correct ignition coil terminal. Mark locations before removing spark plug wires.
Note: Refer to the cylinder-to-coil tower relation indicated.
Disconnect and remove the spark plug wires.
5. Disconnect the following at the throttle body:
1. accelerator cable
2. speed control actuator cable (if so equipped)
3. vapor management hose
4. wiring at the Throttle Position (TP) sensor
6. Remove the accelerator cable bracket.
7. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose and remove the throttle cable/speed control routing clip retaining screw.
8. Disconnect the manifold vacuum connection.
9. Disconnect the heated PCV.
- Disconnect the PCV tube.
- Disconnect the water tubes.
10. Remove the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve.
11. Remove the transmission dipstick tube routing bracket retaining nut and solenoid mounting bracket.
1. Remove the two engine vacuum regulator EGR transducer bracket stud bolts.
2. Position the EGR transducer bracket aside.
12. Disconnect the wiring at the Idle Air Control Valve (IAC valve).
13. Remove nuts and set vapor management valve aside.
14. Remove the bolts and the upper intake manifold.
15. Remove and discard the intake manifold upper gasket.
Installation
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Install a new intake manifold upper gasket.
2. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in two stages:
- Stage 1: Tighten to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.).
- Stage 2: Tighten an additional 90 degrees.
