Heated Glass Element: Description and Operation
OPERATIONThe Rear Window Defrost System is powered by the 15A Fuse 5 of the Interior Fuse Panel, which is hot with the Ignition Switch in the "RUN" position, and by the 40A Maxi-Fuse 11 of the Power Distribution Box, which is hot at all times.
Pressing the momentary defrost switch "ON" closes the contacts of the defrost relay and starts a ten minute (approximate) timing cycle. When the defrost switch is released from "ON", the solid state circuitry keeps the defrost relay energized.
Current flows from the 40A Maxi-Fuse 11 of the Power Distribution Box through the defrost relay contacts to the Rear Window Defrost Grid, and the LH and RH Heated Mirrors (if equipped).
Pressing the defrost switch to "OFF" de-energizes the defrost relay, removing power from the Rear Window Defrost Grid and the Heated Mirrors. If the "OFF" switch is not pressed, power will remain on until the time delay runs out. Then the relay will de-energize, removing power from the Rear Window Defrost Grid and the Heated Mirrors.
