Attachment IIIA - Supplemental Reinforcement /Inspection

Supplemental Reinforcement Plates

Inspection Procedures
In some isolated cases, the liftgate may be damaged in the area around the bracket which connects the hydraulic lift cylinder to the liftgate. To inspect the liftgate for damage, please answer the following questions:

Level of Damage Beyond Spot Weld

^ sheet metal cracks over 1/4" length - Yes/No
^ irregular metal tearing over 1/4" - Yes/No
^ metal surface deformation over 1/4" - Yes/No

If the answer to any of these questions is "yes" for the right or left side of the liftgate, then the liftgate must be replaced. If answer to all these is "no", then install the supplemental reinforcement plates and release the vehicle.

NOTE:
After painting the liftgate, the existing parts (wiper motor, rear window, electrical harness, etc.) are to be transferred to the new liftgate.
