Overhaul
Disassemble1. Remove caliper and brake pads, then place a block of wood over piston and apply air pressure to fluid port to remove piston. If piston is seized and cannot be forced from caliper, tap lightly around piston while applying air pressure. Apply only enough air pressure to ease piston out of bore.
2. Remove dust boot from caliper assembly, then the rubber piston seal from cylinder. Discard rubber seal.
Cleaning & Inspection
1. Clean all metal parts with isopropyl alcohol, then clean out and dry grooves and passageways with compressed air. Ensure caliper bore and component pieces are thoroughly clean.
2. Check cylinder bore and piston for damage or excessive wear. Replace piston if signs of pitting, scoring or cracks are evident.
Assemble
1. Apply a film of clean brake fluid to new caliper piston seal, then install into cylinder bore. Ensure seal does not become twisted and is firmly seated in groove.
2. Install new dust boot by setting flange squarely in outer groove of caliper bore.
3. Coat piston with brake fluid, then install into cylinder bore.
4. Spread dust boot over piston as it is installed. Seat dust boot in piston groove.
5. Install caliper and pads.
