ISSUE: A noise and vibration during A/C compressor operation may be caused by normal compressor pulsations becoming exaggerated at certain engine frequencies.

ACTION: Install a new manifold and tube assembly with a muffler in its suction line. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

REMOVAL

1. Discharge the refrigerant from the system by following the recommended procedures.

2. Remove the bolt attaching the manifold and tube assembly to the rear head of the compressor, Figure 1.

3. Disconnect the other ends of the suction and discharge lines.

4. Remove any bracket attachments.

5. Remove the manifold and tube assembly from the truck.

INSTALLATION

1. Lubricate two (2) new "O" rings with clean refrigerant oil.

2. Position them on the "O" ring grooves of the compressor rear head, Figure 1.

3. Position the manifold and tube assembly to the rear head of the compressor.

NOTE: MAKE SURE THE MANIFOLD PILOTS ARE POSITIONED IN THE COMPRESSOR PORT OPENINGS.

4. Install the manifold attaching bolt. Tighten to 17 lb.ft. (23 N-m).

5. Connect the other ends of the suction and discharge firies using new lubricated "O" rings.
6. Install bracket attachments removed earlier.

7. Leak test, evacuate and charge the system following the recommended procedures. Observe all safety precautions.
