Synchronizer Ring: Testing and Inspection

Synchronizer Clearance Chart:

Position synchronizer on synchronizer body and insert a suitable feeler gauge, then measure clearance at two opposite points. If clearance is less than 0.024 inch or 3rd/4th, 1st/2nd and 5th synchronizer assemblies, and 0.008 inch for reverse synchronizer assembly, replace synchronizer ring, synchronizer body or both. Check length of all synchronizer compression springs. Unloaded length of spring should measure 0.583 inch, outer diameter should measure 0.235 inch and wire diameter should measure 0.037 inch.
