SUBJECT: Delivery Hold and Safety Recall 89S68 - Omitted Midship Fuel Tank Shield on Certain 1989 F150/250/350 4X2 Trucks with 133 inch Wheel Base Equipped with Manual Transmission.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
Certain 1989 F150/250/350 4X2 with 133 inch wheel base gasoline powered trucks with manual transmission built from Job # 1 through April 21, 1989 at the Kansas City Assembly Plant.
REASONS FOR RECALL
Midship fuel tank nose shields were omitted from these trucks. These shields are designed to help protect the fuel tank during 30 MPH frontal barrier impact tests specified by U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 301, "Fuel System Integrity".
To correct this condition a fuel tank shield must be installed.
SALE OR DELIVERY OF VEHICLES, IN FEDERALIZED MARKETS, THAT DO NOT CONFORM TO APPLICABLE U.S. FEDERAL SAFETY STANDARDS MAY SUBJECT THE DEALER TO CIVIL PENALTIES UNDER THE U.S. NATIONAL TRAFFIC AND MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY ACT.
