DOOR - REPLACEMENT SLIDING - SERVICE TIP
LIGHT TRUCK:
1986-93 AEROSTAR
ISSUE:
An updated level sliding door has been released for service. When replacing the door, the lower sliding door locator will no longer attach. New hardware has been released to accommodate the updated level sliding door installation
ACTION:
After replacement of the sliding door with the updated level door, upgrade the lower door alignment hardware to the new level hardware at the lower door alignment position. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the lower alignment pocket by removing the screws from the right side B-pillar moulding. Loosen the headliner moulding to allow for sufficient access to the B-pillar. The complete removal of the B-pillar moulding is not required, but position it out of the way to gain access to the lower section of the B-pillar.
2. Loosen the screws in the alignment pocket, then reach behind the B-pillar to hold the backing plate and remove the screws.
NOTE:
IF THE BACKING PLATE IS NOT HELD AND THE SCREWS ARE REMOVED, THE BACKING PLATE COULD FALL INTO THE ROCKER AREA OF THE VEHICLE.
3. Remove the pocket and assist the removal of the backing plate through the opening in the B-pillar (Figure 1).
4. Install the foam seal (Figure 2) (E9TZ-1023227-A) around the rubber puck on the new backing plate (Figure 3) (F49Z-11211A66-A) as shown in Figure 4.
5. Install the new backing plate and top cover in the B-pillar and tighten the screws to 10 lb-ft (13.6 N-m) (Figure 5).
6. Install the locating pin (F49Z-11264A10-A) in the door and snug lightly.
7. Close the door to position the pin, reopen the door and torque to 30 lb-ft (40.7 N-m).
8. Install the grommet (F49Z-11200A31-A) over the pin.
