Parts Requirements
Parts will not be direct shipped for this recall. Order your parts requirements through normal order processing channels as noted below:

Replacement Fuel Tank (see note below)
To order a replacement fuel tank, call the Recall Hotline at 1-800-325-5621 and ask for a Fuel Tank kit for program 98M03. Be prepared to supply PA code, VIN and fuel tank size. All 1988 and some early 1989 Aerostars have a 17 gal. fuel tank. Most 1989 and all 1990 have a 21 gal. tank. IDENTIFICATION: 17 gallon tanks use straps that insert into the BOTTOM of the "frame" rail. The 21 gallon tanks use straps that insert into the SIDE of the frame rail.

Both Fuel Tank kits (17 and 21 gallon) contain a new fuel tank with installed grommets. Each kit also includes new fuel tank straps and attaching hardware.

NOTE:
We anticipate that less than 1 out of every 1,000 vehicles will require a new fuel tank.

Parts Retention
Ford is continuing to investigate this condition and may come to your dealership to inspect remoed fuel tanks for structural cracks. Please retain cracked fuel tanks for a minimum of 60 days.

Excess Stock Return
