This article is republished to clarify appropriate service part identification. All parts in service stock are the latest level liftgates.
Cracking of the fiberglass liftgate may occur on Bronco II units built prior to October 17, 1983 and may be serviced in the following manner:
Remove the cracked liftgate and replace it with a new one (See Parts List).

Refer to the 1984 Bronco Shop Manual, Section 44-41-1 for removal and replacement instructions (See Figure 13)
After installing the new liftgate, a new latch handle and spare tire latch bracket reinforcement are required (See Parts List). It is mandatory that a new latch handle and reinforcement be installed at the same time that the liftgate is replaced.
NOTE: Refer to the 1984 Bronco Shop Manual, Section 47-28-15, Figure 16 for removal and installation of (1A401) reinforcement assembly.

Enamel - SPP42A84 - Time: 1.9 Hrs. Misc. material - $3.50 Paint quantity - .6 qt.
Metallic - SPP42B84 Time: 2.5 Hrs. Misc. material - $3.50 Paint quantity - .6 qt.
Extra time if second color is applied - 0.2 Hr.
Includes basic "get ready" and "clean up" time.
