DRIVESHAFT - GRAPHITE COMPOSITION
LIGHT TRUCKS 1984-1/2 E250-350
A new one-piece graphite driveshaft will replace the current two-piece steel driveshafts on a limited number of vehicles with a 4.10 axle ratio beginning approximately June 18, 1984.
The graphite driveshaft can be distinguished by its large 4" diameter, fiberglass appearance and riveted construction. N.V.H. characterstics are improved by the damping properties of the material.
Graphite driveshafts are serviced in the same manner as conventional steel driveshafts with regard to universal joint/slip yoke replacement and balance.
Service graphite driveshaft assemblies will not be available until 1985 model year. If replacement is necessary, a two-piece driveline must be installed. A one-piece steel driveshaft must not be installed as it is not structurally equivalent to the graphite shaft. When mounting the center bearing support plate, the mounting holes in the plate and crossmember must be enlarged to 7/16" to accomodate the mounting bolts.
