Idle Speed: Adjustments
IDLE SPEED ADJUSTMENT
- Warm up engine in "PARK" or "NEUTRAL" until normal operating temperature is reached. Set parking brake and block wheels. Turn off all accessories.
- Remove air cleaner, disconnect and plug vacuum line at bottom of air cleaner.
- With the ignition off, disconnect Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor connector.
- Start engine and open the throttle momentarily three times.
- Using an allen wrench, adjust idle speed motor maximum extension to specification by turning the Idle Speed Control (ISC) adjusting screw. Specifications
NOTE: On some carburetor applications the maximum extension adjusting screw will have a jam nut. It is important to tighten the jam nut to 25 lbs-in after setting the maximum extension screw.
- With the engine still running, put the fast idle screw on the kickdown step (second highest step) of the fast idle cam and adjust to specification. Specifications
- Open throttle momentarily, reconnect the ECT sensor connector, and then shut off ignition.
- Reinstall air cleaner.
- Restart engine. Verify curb idle speed is within specification.
NOTE: If engine curb idle rpm is not within specification after performing this procedure, perform Electronic Engine Controls (EEC) Quick Test. Testing and Inspection
