NOISE - TAPPING NOISE (2.8L) FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT


LIGHT TRUCKS 1984 BRONCO II AND RANGER

If a "tapping" noise is emanating from the engine compartment and is audible in the passenger compartment (cab), it may be the EGR solenoid assembly (this noise will be more noticeable in cold weather, 30~F and below). To service this concern:

1. Remove EGR solenoid assembly (part no. E37E- 9D474-E2A). Solenoid is located on the engine control housing, mounted on the right hand fender apron.
2. Obtain a new EGR solenoid assembly (part no. E3TZ-9D474-G) which has a black plastic housing and install it in the engine control housing (located on the right hand fender apron).
3. Check to ensure all vacuum hose and wire connections are secure and routed in a manner to prevent any potential obstructions.
