Procedure

This procedure involves removing the A/C fixed orifice, removing a section of the fixed orifice line, and installing filter assembly.

1. Disconnect battery negative cable.

2. Discharge the refrigerant system as described on page 24-44 in the 1990 Premier/Monaco Service Manual.

3. Disconnect the lower line (fixed orifice line) at the condenser. Figure 3.

4. Insert fixed orifice removal tool 6146 from A/C Compressor Tool Kit 6125 (MS.1979) into the fixed orifice line. Figure 4.

5. Turn the tool clockwise to engage tabs on the fixed orifice tube.

6. Remove the fixed orifice and discard it.

7. Install the lower line to the condenser.

8. Locate and carefully cut out a 5 inch section of the fixed orifice line as shown in figure 5, being sure the ends of the cut line are square.

9. Position the two clamps supplied with the filter kit over the two ends of the line being sure the clamp spacer bar is positioned as shown in Figure 6.

10. Insert the orifice tube filter stems into the line ends. Be sure the end of the lines contact the filter shoulder and the clamp spacer bar is positioned as shown in Figure 7.

NOTE: ORIENTATION OF THE ORIFICE FILTER IS IMPORTANT. BE SURE THE FILTER IS INSTALLED IN THE DIRECTION INDICATED ON THE FILTER LABEL. THE LONG STEM ON THE FILTER HOUSES THE FIXED ORIFICE AND MUST BE INSTALLED IN THE HOSE END CLOSEST TO THE EVAPORATOR.
11. Tighten the clarups to 45 inch pounds (5 N-m).

12. Install the battery negative cable.

13. Evacuate and charge the A/C system as described on pages 24-45 and 46 in the 1990 Premier/Monaco Service Manual.
