Suspension Spring ( Coil / Leaf ): Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Raise and support vehicle. Ensure vehicle weight is not supported under front lower control arms.
2. Remove front tire and wheel assemblies.
3. Remove outer tie rod end securing nut, then the tie rod using suitable tool.
4. Remove three strut to body attaching nuts.
5. Remove securing nuts from bottom of shock absorber.
6. Remove lower shock absorber mounting bolts.
7. To prevent damage, wrap boot then press down on lower control arm and guide assembly out.
DISASSEMBLY
Suspension Tool Kit No. 1052.99 is supplied with various adapter plates for different models. Eagle Premier models use adapter plates stamped R-21.
Fig 1 Spring Removal Tool Lower Plate:
1. Place lower plate from spring removal tool into a vise.

2. Place lower adapter plates (G) into lower plate.
3. Place smaller adapter plates (F) around lower part of strut assembly and properly seat into lower plate that is secured in the vise.

4. Install top adapter plate (H) onto strut assembly and rotate strut to align with holes on plate. Install three 5/16 inch by 1.5 inch bolts (L & K) in length through top plate and tighten to cushion (Q).
5. Threading rods into mounts, slowly compress coil spring to approximately 13/32 inch.
6. Relieve spring tension evenly by loosening threaded bolts and remove spring.
