SYMPTOM/CONDITION

Premature tire wear on either front or rear or both which may be evident by sight and/or sound, may be the result of static "toe" adjustment. This condition may be resolved by adjusting the "toe" alignment to the following specifications, see Figure 1.

*NOTE: TO MAKE THIS TOE ADJUSTMENT IT WILL BE NECESSARY
TO USE SHIM P/N 5205114 MODIFIED AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 2.

REPAIR PROCEDURES


FRONT WHEEL CURB TOE ADJUSTMENT

1. Follow standard toe adjustment procedures.


REAR WHEEL CURB TOE ADJUSTMENT

1. Raise vehicle to a comfortable working height.

2. Loosen the four Torx head bolts attaching the rear axle/torsion bar assembly to the shaft and flange assembly (drum brakes) or the trailing arm to the brake and spindle assembly (disc brakes), at least three (3) full turns.

3. Remove and discard the two (2) FRONT upper and lower bolts.

4. Install two (2) new bolts P/N J0762039. Slide modified shim P/N 5205114 between the rear axle/torsion bar assembly and the back side of the brake support plate (drum brakes), or the trailing arm and the back side of the brake and spindle assembly (disc brakes). Tighten bolts enough to hold shim in position.

5. Remove and discard the two (2) REAR upper and lower bolts.

6. Install two (2) new bolts P/N J0762039.

7. Tighten all four bolts to 48 foot-pounds (64 N-m).

8. Repeat operation on opposite side.

9. Lower vehicle and verify proper "toe" adjustment using calibrated alignment equipment.


NOTE: IF NECESSARY, IT IS PERMISSIBLE TO INSTALL ONE (1) ADDITIONAL SHIM ON EACH SIDE TO BRING THE TOE WITHIN SPECIFICATIONS.
