Rocker Arm Assembly: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Remove valve cover.
2. Alternately loosen each bridge and pivot assembly capscrew one turn at a time.
3. Remove capscrews, bridges, pivot assemblies and pushrods, then set on bench in sequence removed.
CLEANING & INSPECTION
1. Clean components with cleaning solvent and use compressed air to blow out oil passages in rocker arms and pushrods.
2. Inspect pivot surface area of rocker arms. Replace if any are scuffed, pitted or excessively worn.
3. Inspect valve stem to tip contact surface of rocker arm and replace if pitted.
4. Inspect pushrod end for excessive wear, also check corresponding hydraulic lifter. If worn, replace as necessary.
5. Inspect length of pushrod and cylinder head for abnormal wear and correct condition if required.
INSTALLATION
1. Apply suitable oil conditioner to pushrods. then install pushrods into center of lifter.
2. Lubricate area of rocker arm that the pivot contacts and install rocker arms, pivots and bridge to location removed.
3. Tighten capscrews alternately one turn at a time to specifications.
4. Install valve cover.
