Electric Motor Removal

CAUTION: WHEN REMOVING THE MOTOR, IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THE SUNROOF TRAY BE REMOVED ACCORDING TO THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE.
1. Remove the upper body-side trim panels (Figure 4), (disengage the clips (D) bare-handed.
2. Remove trim panels 1, 2 and 5.

3. Remove the interior light assembly as described on page 59 of the M.R. 290 workshop manual (Publication No. 8980 010 519).
4. Remove the sun visors.
5. Remove the finishing frame (G) (Figure 5).
CAUTION: BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN REMOVING THE FINISHING FRAME, THE SEAL IS VERY DELICATE.
6. Remove the headliner.

NOTE: THE HEADLINER IS FASTENED TO THE SUNROOF WITH "VELCRO" STRIPS AND GLUE. THERE ARE TWO FASTENING AREAS (FIGURE 6).
H. Use a sharp tool to release the glue in the flange area of the sunroof tray.
J. Unfasten the velcro stripes that secure the headliner to the sunroof tray.

7. Remove the sunroof tray assembly as follows:
A. Disconnect all four drain tubes (K) (Figure 7 & 8).
B. Remove the retainers (8) that secure the sunroof tray to the roof (L) (Figure 8).

C. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
D. Disconnect the electrical connector at the motor.
E. Remove motor support plate retaining screws (M) (Figure 9)(BTR screws).
F. Detach the drive cable sheath clip (N).
G. Remove the motor-to-motor support plate retaining screws (P) and remove the motor.
H. Reverse the above procedure for assembly.
