SYMPTOM/CDNDITION
Some 1988-89 Medallions may require a higher than normal effort to shift the transmission lever through all ranges at low ambient temperatures. This condition is most noticeable after the vehicle has cold soaked at temperatures below 23~F (-5~C) for several hours.
DIAGNOSIS
Operate the transmission shift lever through all ranges with the vehicle at normal operating temperature: the shift lever should move freely through all ranges.
If shift lever effort is normal when the vehicle is at normal operating temperature, allow the vehicle to cold soak for several hours (preferably overnight). After cold soak, move the shift lever through all ranges. If the shift lever does not move freely, perform the following repair procedure.
If shift lever effort is higher than normal on vehicles built before FAB NO. L48A-21000 and K48A-6800, refer to Technical Service Bulletin #21-54-88 "High Shift Lever Shifting Effort" for additional diagnosis and repair as required.
