Removal

Do not support vehicle weight using the lower control arms or damage may result.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Remove tire and wheel assembly.

4. Using tool T.Av.476 or equivalent, remove outer tie rod.
5. Remove two attaching bolts securing lower portion of strut. The attaching bolts are splined and require the use of a brass of lead mallet for removal. Prior to removing the two lower strut attaching bolts, ensure front suspension is hanging free. There should be no pressure or tension on any front suspension component.
6. Remove upper attaching bolts.
7. Press on lower control arm and guide strut/coil spring assembly past the drive axle to prevent the strut from coming into contact with the driveshaft boot.
8. To separate coil spring from strut, proceed as follows:

a. Place the lower plate (C) from tool Sus.1052.99 into a suitable vise.

b. Place lower adapter plates (A, shoulder facing downward) into the lower plate (C). Tool set Sus.1052.99 is supplied with different adapter plates (E) to fit various Renault models. For use on the Eagle Medallion, locate and use adapter stamped R-21 and shaped as shown.

c. Place adapter plates (E) around the lower portion of the strut assembly, then position lower strut assembly into plates (A). Ensure strut assembly is properly seated before proceeding with next step.

d. Install upper plate (F) to lower plate (C) while aligning plates with the threaded rods (G).
e. Install attaching bolts (B, from tool Sus.1052.99) through adapter plate (F) and into original strut mounting plate (H). The upper plate (F) has multiple mounting holes used for various Renault models. Install bolts (B) through holes stamped R-21.

f. Liberally apply clean oil to points indicated (J) as shown. The tool Sus.1052.99 is under extreme tension and oil application is necessary.
g. Using threaded rods (G), slowly compress the upper plate (F) approximately 0.393 inches.
h. Using a suitable Allen wrench, remove strut locknut.
i. Using the threaded rods (G), slowly remove all tension from coil spring.
