Steering Wheel: Service and Repair

1. Remove steering wheel trim cover.
2. Place an alignment mark on the steering wheel and shaft before removing steering wheel.
3. Loosen but do not remove steering wheel locknut.
4. Do not hammer against the end of the steering column. The inner column will collapse if struck.
5. Grasp steering wheel and give it a quick pull.
6. When the steering wheel comes loose, remove steering wheel locknut and steering wheel.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. When installing steering wheel, place two drops of Loctite 271 or equivalent onto steering wheel locknut threads.
b. Torque steering wheel retaining nut to 30 ft. lbs.
