DISCUSSION:
This Technical Service Bulletin covers a suggested diagnostic procedure for the Medallion EGR valve, as a supplement to the diagnostic procedures in the INJ.MPI Component Manual (Publication # 8980 010 547).
PROCEDURE:
NOTE: THE ENGINE SHOULD BE AT NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE WHEN PERFORMING THIS DIAGNOSIS.
Figure 1:
1. Install a vacuum gauge to the back pressure sensor port tube (Figure 1) on the EGR valve.
2. Start the engine and let idle. Note the reading on the vacuum gauge. The reading should be zero, indicating that the EGR pintle valve is properly sealing the back pressure port. If any vacuum reading above zero is noted, replace the EGR valve (PN T0730058).
