To: All Jeep/Eagle Dealers

Subject:
Jeep/Eagle Safety Recall # 8708 (BRKMAS5O) --
Brake Master Cylinder

Models:
1988 Premier Passenger Cars Built Before December 22, 1987

Reference: Chrysler Electronic Mail on above subject to all Jeep/Eagle Dealers dated 12/24/87

Some brake master cylinders on Premier cars built before December 22, 1987 may have an internal defect which can cause loss of fluid pressure in either of the two split hydraulic systems. This will result in a significant increase in brake pedal travel and no braking at two of the wheels, either left front and right rear wheels or right front and left rear.

Dealers must immediately inspect all involved 1988 model Premiers, and if necessary, test and repair them as explained in the following instructions.

Dealer stock vehicles must be serviced prior to placing them in service or making retail delivery. Dealers are also urged to contact owners of any sold vehicles to arrange for the service without delay.

Note:
Some owners are identified on the Vehicle Lists which are being sent to involved dealers. These cars should have been repaired in accordance with the referenced electronic mail instructions either prior to retail delivery or through dealer contact with the owners. Therefore, there will be no direct notification from Jeep/Eagle to these owners at this time. If any of these cars have not been serviced, please be sure to contact the owners right away.

Details of this service action are explained in the following sections.
