REPAIR PROCEDURE:

NOTE: WHEN A VEHICLE CONTAINING THE PREVIOUS TYPE HOSES (PRODUCED PRIOR TO MAY 7, 1990) REQUIRES HOSE REPLACEMENT, BOTH FRONT HOSES SHOULD BE REPLACED WITH THE NEW TYPE HOSES. BOTH FRONT HOSES WILL THEN BE ROUTED IN THE SAME MANNER, AVOIDING ANY CONFUSION DURING FUTURE FRONT BRAKE HOSE SERVICE.

1. Fill master cylinder reservoir to the proper level.
2. To prevent drainage of the master cylinder reservoir during hose removal, install a pedal prop rod from the brake pedal to the seat track. Apply minimal pedal effort to avoid high pressure.

3. Disconnect brake tube nut from hose allowing fluid to drain into large container. Discard used brake fluid.

4. Remove spring clip and drain hose.

5. Remove banjo bolt and copper washers from caliper.

6. Discard spring clip and washers.

7. Install new brake hose with the washers supplied in the package.

FIGURE 1:

NOTE: STEPS 8 THROUGH 12 MUST BE PERFORMED IN THE PROPER SEQUENCE TO AVOID INCORRECT ASSEMBLY. REFER TO FIGURE 1 AND NOTE THE FORWARD LOOP OF THE HOSE.

8. Finger tighten the banjo bolt to the caliper with the banjo block sandwiched between the washers. Line up anti-rotation ledge to the flat side of the caliper boss.
9. Rotate the hose forward until the white foam spacer just contacts the strut body.

10. Tighten the banjo bolt to 42 N-m (31 ft.lb).

11. Insert the hose elbow into the body bracket. Refer to Figure 1.

12. Install the new spring clip supplied in the package to secure the elbow to the body bracket. The five-point hex will position the elbow 30~ toward the rear of the vehicle.

13. Tighten brake tube nut to 19 N-m (14 ft.lb).

14. Remove brake pedal prop rod.

15. Bleed both front brake calipers thoroughly. Refer to the 1990 Premier/Monaco Service Manual (# 81-270-0140) page 5-7 for brake bleeding information.
