Assembly/Installation
STEERING SHAFT BOTTOM BUSHING
1. If removed, coat steering shaft bottom bushing with clean chassis grease.
2. Install bottom bushing into steering column jacket using a suitable length of tubing. Tap bushing into column jacket until the bushing seats against the locating tabs in the jacket.
INTERMEDIATE SHAFT & STEERING COLUMN
1. Install ignition switch onto column.
2. Position toe board boot onto intermediate shaft.
3. Align and install the intermediate shaft onto the steering gear shaft.
4. Insert the upper steering shaft into the column jacket and through the bottom bushing.
5. Coat the top bushing with clean chassis grease and install onto shaft.
6. Tap top bushing onto shaft and into column jacket using a suitable length of tubing. Tap bushing into column jacket until bushing seats against the locating tabs in the jacket.
7. Secure toe board boot.
8. Install and tighten the intermediate shaft coupling pinch bolt and nut.
9. Install the steering column assembly as follows:
a. Align the intermediate shaft coupling and upper steering shaft.
b. Insert upper shaft into intermediate shaft coupling and install the coupling pinch bolt and nut.
10. Position assembled steering column into instrument panel.
11. Install and tighten attaching bolts and nuts securing column to the instrument and cowl panels.
12. Position electrical switches onto column and install switch attaching bolt.
13. Install trim covers onto column assembly.
14. Install steering wheel and tighten wheel attaching nut to 30 ft. lbs.
15. Install lower trim cover onto instrument panel.
