American Motors Dual Pin Sliding Caliper
Fig. 2 American Motors dual pin slider disc brake assembly. 1982---87 Eagle:
On Eagle models, the caliper assembly incorporates a rotor which mounts to the hub assembly, a caliper, brake shoes and linings, caliper anchor plate and splash shield.
The caliper used on all models has a 2.6 inch diameter piston. The caliper is positioned over the rotor and slides on two mounting pins which maintain caliper position relative to the rotor and caliper anchor plate. The caliper is a one-piece casting with a groove machined in the bore to hold the square cut piston seal to maintain a hydraulic seal between the piston and bore wall. The dust boot is seated in a machined recess in the top of the piston bore and a groove in the piston exterior surface.
The inner and outer brake shoes are positioned by the caliper anchor plate. The brake shoe anti-rattle clip is positioned between the brake shoe and caliper anchor plate. The brake linings are riveted to the shoes and the inner and outer brake shoes are not interchangeable.
