Power Steering Fluid Cooler: Service and Repair
NOTE: Before proceeding, review SERVICE WARNINGS AND CAUTIONS found at Steering, Service Precautions.REMOVAL
1. Remove the air cleaner as an assembly from the vehicle.
2. Remove the hose clamps from the power steering fluid hoses. Drain power steering fluid from the hoses and the power steering fluid cooler.
3. Remove the 2 bolts attaching the power steering fluid cooler to the cross-car beam.
INSTALLATION:
1. Install the power steering fluid cooler on the cross-car beam as shown in the image.
2. Install the 2 bolts attaching the power steering fluid cooler to the bumper reinforcement. Tighten the attaching bolt to a torque of 23 Nm (200 inch lbs.).
3. Install power steering fluid hoses on the power steering fluid cooler. Install the hose clamps on the power steering fluid hoses. Be sure hose clamps are installed on hose past the upset bead on the power steering oil cooler.
4. Install the air cleaner.
6. Start the engine and let run for a few seconds. Then turn the engine off.
6. Add fluid if necessary. Repeat the above procedure until the fluid level remains constant after running the engine.
7. Start the engine. Slowly turn the steering wheel right and left, lightly contacting the wheel stops.
8. Add power steering fluid if necessary.
9. Stop the engine. Check the fluid level and refit] as required.
10. If the fluid is extremely foamy, allow the vehicle to stand a few minutes and repeat the above procedure.
