Disassembly/Assembly

1. Disable airbag, refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair.
2. Remove steering column, refer to Removal/Installation.

3. Disassemble steering column in numbered sequence shown, noting the following:
a. If it is necessary to remove the steering lock, use a hacksaw to cut the special bolts at steering lock bracket side.
b. Use a socket wrench or a 1.2 inch outer diameter tool, to remove lower bearing.
c. Remove the snap ring then tap out clevis pin from inner side of column lower tube.

4. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Apply a thin coat of multipurpose grease to sliding part of lower bearing.
b. Press oil seal into lower column tube.
c. Apply multipurpose bearing grease which contacts steering shaft.
d. Slide column tube and adjust so dimension marked A is 0.98-0.99 inch.
e. Install column tube clamp at position as shown.
f. After ensuring steering lock operates correctly, tighten special bolts until heads twist off.
