Service Procedure

1. Inspect the master cylinder brake fluid reservoir to insure that the fluid level is correct and the cap is securely installed.

2. Remove the brake lamp fuse from the fuse block below the instrument panel (Fuse # 17) to prevent discharging the battery.

3. Install a brake pedal fixture to keep the master cylinder in the applied position, such as a prop rod from the brake pedal to the driver seat. Apply minimal pedal effort to avoid high pressure.

NOTE:
Only the front brakes will require bleeding if the master cylinder remains applied.

4. Raise the vehicle to a working level on an appropriate hoist.

5. Remove both front wheel and tire assemblies.

6. Clean any loose debris from the area around both left front brake hose connections using shop air.

CAUTION:
Wear safety goggles.

7. Disconnect the left front brake hose from the HCU brake tube and then remove the spring clip. Cap the brake tube to prevent fluid leakage (Figure 1).

8. Disconnect the brake hose from the left front strut brake tube (Figure 1). Remove the spring clip and then remove and discard the brake hose.

9. Connect the provided brake hose to the left front strut brake tube. Install the spring clip and tighten the fitting to 11 ft-lbs (15 N.m).

10. Remove the cap from the HCU brake tube and connect the new brake hose to the brake tube fitting. Install the spring clip and tighten the fitting to 11 ft-lbs (15 N.m).

11. Repeat Steps 6 through 10 for the right front brake hose.

12. Remove the brake pedal fixture.

13. Reinstall the brake lamp fuse.

14. Bleed any air from both front brakes lines.

NOTE:
Rear brake lines do not require bleeding.

IMPORTANT:
Use only clean brake fluid that conforms to DOT3 or DOT4 specifications. Do not allow any debris to enter the reservoir as it may damage the ABS HCU.

15. Install both front wheel and tire assemblies.

16. Lower the vehicle.
