Engine - No Crank/No Start Condition
NO.:08-24-92
GROUP:
Electrical
DATE:
Nov. 16, 1992
SUBJECT:
Starter Motor Will Not Operate
MODELS:
1992 (B7) Stealth
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Vehicles may exhibit a no crank/no start condition. This may be caused by corrosion of two wires in the A-67 12-connector. The A-67 connector is located on the right inner fender just forward of the air cleaner (shown on page 8-28 of the 1992 Stealth Electrical Service Manual, Publication No. 81-270-2116).
DIAGNOSIS:
1. With the ignition in the OFF position, disconnect the battery negative cable.
2. Disconnect the A-67 connector and inspect the terminal ends of the 1.25 RB (1.25 mm red with black tracer) and 0.5 BW (0.5 mm black with white tracer) wires for corrosion.
3. If corrosion is present, proceed with the following repair procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
1 Wiring Repair Package 4740351
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin outlines removal of two wires from the A-67 12-way connector, and the installation of a new 2-way in-line connector (as illustrated).
1. Remove approximately 50 mm (2 inches) of tape from the wire harness on both sides of the 12-way connector.
2. Cut the 1.25 RB and 0.5 BW wires about 25 mm (1 inch) from both sides of the 12-way connector.
3. Slide a piece of heat shrink tubing onto each of the four wire ends coming out of the connector.
4. Strip 25 mm (1 inch) of insulation from the four wiring harness wires cut from the 12-way connector. Slide a piece of heat shrink tubing onto each of the four wires.
5. Strip 25 mm (1 inch) of insulation from the four wires of the in-line 2-way connector.
6. Twist the bare ends of the 2-way in-line connector wires to the wiring harness wires, taking care to match wire color.
7. Solder all four joints together using a ROSIN CORE SOLDER.
8. Center the heat shrink tubing over each joint and heat until the tubing is tightly sealed and sealant comes out of both ends.
9. Retape the wiring harness and locate it in its original position.
