Front Steering Knuckle: Service and Repair

NOTE: When removing steering knuckle, the front wheel hub and wheel bearing assembly can be removed as an assembly.
REMOVAL
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove wheel and tire assembly, then protect driveshaft boot with shop towel.
3. Unfasten brake caliper and position aside, leaving hydraulic lines attached.
4. Remove driveshaft center nut and the rotor.
5. Remove wheel bearing to steering knuckle attaching bolts (L) through access hole (J) in front hub.
6. Remove front hub and wheel bearing assembly using a suitable tool.
7. Remove ball joint keybolt and separate ball joint from knuckle.
8. Remove steering knuckle to strut attaching bolts, then the steering knuckle assembly.
INSTALLATION
1. Position ball joint in steering knuckle, then install ball joint keybolt and nut.
2. Install steering knuckle to strut attaching bolts.
3. Place front hub and wheel bearing assembly over driveshaft. Using access hole in wheel hub, attach wheel bearing to steering knuckle and torque to specifications.
4. Torque driveshaft nut to specifications.
5. Install brake rotor and caliper.
