Valve Body: Service and Repair

1. Shift gear selector into manual first gear position (D1).
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Remove underbody splash shield.
4. Loosen fill tube-to-oil pan attaching nut, then drain fluid. Disconnect fill tube from pan.
5. Remove oil pan retaining clamp attaching nuts, then remove retaining clamps and oil pan. Do not remove oil screen, as valve body is removed with oil screen in place.
6. Remove valve body attaching bolts, then the valve body.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Place gear shift lever into manual first gear detent (last detent in counterclockwise direction).
b. Pull throttle cable to wide open throttle position to avoid jamming the throttle cam and piston during valve body installation.
c. Push manual valve (D), Fig. 6, all the way into manual first gear position.
d. Torque valve body attaching bolts to 72 inch lbs.
e. Torque oil pan clamp nuts to 54 inch lbs., torque fill tube attaching nut to 74 ft-lbs.
f. Remove transaxle dipstick and add 2 1/4 quarts of Mercon automatic transmission fluid through fill tube. Check and adjust fluid level as necessary.
g. Adjust throttle valve cable, refer to Transmission and Drivetrain/Automatic Transmission/Transaxle/Throttle Valve (Kick Down Cable)/Adjustments.
