EGR Control Solenoid: Description and Operation
EGR Valve Solenoid:
The EGR valve solenoid, mounted on the left inner fender panel below the ignition module, controls the vacuum to the EGR valve. When the Engine Control Unit (ECU) ENERGIZES the solenoid, the solenoid blocks the vacuum passage to the EGR. The solenoid is ENERGIZED during cold engine operation, idle, wide open throttle, rapid acceleration, and rapid deceleration. Since the solenoid blocks the vacuum signal to the EGR valve, if the solenoid is disconnected, driveability problems will result.
