C. Flush and Refill Power Steering System
1. Drain the power steering reservoir into a container for disposal by disconnecting the inlet hose from the power steering pump. (The inlet hose is the forward/larger hose from the reservoir.
2. After draining, reconnect the hose to the pump and secure it with a new clamp -- PN 2448770.
3. Disconnect the return hose at the reservoir. (The return hose is the rearward/smaller hose from two-power steering gear.) Route the hose end into a container for disposal.
4. Cap the return hose nipple at the reservoir.
5. Fill the reservoir with power steering fluid, PN 4549617 or PN 4318056, and start the engine.
6. Add 1-1/2 quarts of fluid to the reservoir and allow the fluid to flush through the system, turning the steering wheel back and forth periodically. Do not contact stops.
7. Turn the engine off.
8. Reconnect the return hose to the reservoir and secure it with a new clamp -- PN 2448770.
9. Fill the reservoir with fluid.
10. Start the engine and purge the air from the system using service manual procedures.
11. Check and adjust the fluid level if required.
