SAFETY RECALL -- STEERING COLUMN INTERMEDIATE SHAFT AND POWER STEERING FLUID

Dear Chrysler Motors Vehicle Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and

Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Chrysler Motors has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1990 model Eagle Premier and Dodge Monaco cars. The steering column intermediate shaft may separate at its rubber isolated shaft coupling. in addition, incorrect power steering fluid may have been used in the power steering system.

Your car, whose Vehicle Identification Number is shown on the enclosed form, is one of the affected vehicles. For this reason we ask that you arrange for service as soon as possible to correct the conditions. The service and required parts as defined in this letter will be provided free of charge. if the steering shaft coupling separates, loss of steering control could occur, possibly resulting in an accident without prior warning.

Your dealer will install a new, revised steering column shaft and the proper power steering fluid. The service will take about one hour to complete. However, additional time may be required depending on how dealer service appointments are scheduled and processed. To obtain this free service:

^ Contact your dealer as soon as possible to schedule an appointment for the service.

^ Take the enclosed Owner Recall Notification Form with you at the time of your appointment and give it to your dealer. The form shows the identification number for the vehicle which requires service.

If you have any problem obtaining the needed service, please contact the Chrysler Zone Service Office in your area. (It is listed under "Service Assistance in your Operator's Manual.) A Zone representative will arrange for prompt servicing of your car.

We regret any inconvenience which this action may cause you. However, we believe that you understand our concern for motor vehicle safety, and for your continued satisfaction with our products. If your dealer fails or is unable to remedy this defect without charge within a reasonable time, you may submit a written complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 400 Seventh Street, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20590, or call the Toll Free Auto Safety Hotline at 1-800-424-9393 (Washington, D.C., area residents may call 426-0123).
