Electronic mail to all Jeep/Eagle and Dodge dealers March 13, 1990. Subject: Withhold Delivery of Affected Vehicles Until Steering Column Intermediate Shaft is Replaced -- Recall Nos. 475/476.
1990 model Eagle Premier and Dodge Monaco passenger cars built during January, 1990 require replacement of the steering column intermediate shaft and the power steering fluid. This service is required before stock vehicles are driven or delivered-to customers.
Note:
Certain additional 1990 Premier and Monaco vehicles require replacement of the steering column intermediate shaft only. These vehicles are involved in separate recall # 476.
The service for this recall (# 475) is required to correct the following defect conditions:
^ The lower, intermediate steering shaft may separate at the rubber isolated shaft coupling, resulting in the potential for loss of steering control.
^ Incorrect power steering fluid may have been used in affected vehicles.
Corrected steering column intermediate shafts for the service have been distributed to parts depots. Order shafts, power steering fluid and hose clamps as needed for service correction at dealer cost.
Details of this service action are explained in the following sections. As an additional service aid videotape demonstrating the service procedure will be included in the
May, 1990 Master Tech and VideoTec programs.
