Subject: Customer Satisfaction Notification #404 -- Shelby Lancer Grille
Models: 1987 Shelby Lancer
Paint used on the 1987 model Shelby Lancer grille, may peel as a result of inadequate adhesion. Therefore, all grilles must be replaced with corrected parts.
Details of this service action are explained in the following sections.
Vehicle List
Each dealer to whom involved cars were invoiced will receive a listing of them with this letter, arranged in Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) sequence. Owners known to Chrysler are also listed. The lists are for dealer reference in arranging for service of involved cars.
Parts
Corrected grille replacement parts packages, PN C3940297, are being provided free of charge to all involved dealers for service of affected cars.
Each dealer to whom involved cars were delivered by Shelby will receive enough parts packages to service 100% of those cars.

Owner Notification and Service Scheduling
All involved car owners known to Shelby are being notified of the service requirement by first class mail. They are requested to schedule appointments for the service with their dealers.
Enclosed with each owner notification is an Owner Recall Notification Form #83-295-0019. This form replaces the previously used Recall Claim Form.
Service Procedure
1. Remove grille attachment screws using a # 15 Torx Head screwdriver. Remove grille from car and set aside for parts return.
2. Install new grille from parts package.
Completion Reporting and Reimbursement
Claims for vehicles which have been serviced should be submitted by DIAL dealers on the DIAL II System. Non DIAL dealers may use WROs. Claims submitted will be used by Chrysler to record recall service completions and provide dealer payments. (See Chapter 6, Warranty Policy and Procedure Manual for complete claim processing instructions.)
If using a a WRO, enter only one VIN per claim. Fill in the labor operation number and time allowance and write on the WRO "Recall #404 -- Shelby Lancer Grille." Do not enter other service claims on the same WRO.

Parts Return
Removed grilles must be returned. Refer to the Warranty Policy and Procedure Manual, Section 6, Subsection H, for complete material return instructions.

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION NOTIFICATION -- SHELBY LANCER GRILLE
Dear Shelby Lancer Owner:
To help ensure your satisfaction, we ask that you arrange to take your 1987 Shelby Lancer to the selling dealer for a special, free grille replacement.
The grille installed in the vehicle at the factory may have been improperly painted, and the paint could peel away from the grille surface. To avoid this problem, your dealer will install a new correctly painted grille at no cost to you. This work can be done in about one-half hour. To obtain this service:
1. Contact your selling dealer for an appointment.
2. Take the enclosed Recall Notification Form with you at the time of your appointment and give it to your dealer. The form identifies the vehicle and recall for which service is required. The dealer will perform the service without charge.
If you have any problem obtaining the service, please contact the Chrysler Zone Office in your area. (It is listed under "Service Assistance" in your Operator's Manual.) A Zone representative will arrange for prompt servicing of your car.
