To: All Dodge and Chrysler-Plymouth Dealers
Subject: Emissions Recall # 483 -- CO Emissions
Models: 1987 Model Year Plymouth and Dodge Colt Equipped With a 1.5L Carbureted Engine and Federal Emission Control System
The listed model vehicles may emit carbon monoxide (CO) in excess of the Federal Emissions Standards. To correct this condition, the following steps are required:
^ Install a vacuum control valve.
^ Modify the vacuum harness.
^ Install a hose routing label.
Caution:
Repairs made to involved cars will be audited by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It is essential to complete each step of the service procedure exactly as specified.
Failure to do so may cause emissions noncompliance. In addition, EPA considers failure to properly perform emissions recall procedures to be a violation which may subject the servicing dealer to a significant fine.
Details of this service action are explained in the following sections. As an additional service aid, a videotape demonstrating the service procedure is included in the November, 1990 Master Tech program.
