SYMPTOM/CONDITION
A discharged battery may result from driving a series of short trips (1 or 2 miles each) due to the after-run fan.
NOTE: THIS REPAIR SHOULD NOT BE USED UNLESS CUSTOMERS DRIVING HABITS INVOLVE NUMEROUS SHORT TRIPS IN A ROW.
DIAGNOSIS
Proper operation of the charging system and battery should be verified before proceeding with this procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
This procedure involves disabling the after-run fan.. The appropriate vapor lock/fuel foaming kit must then be installed to prevent fuel foaming.
FIGURE 1:
REMOVE THE AMBIENT TEMP SENSOR (FIGURE 1)
1. Unplug the ambient temp sensor electrical connector.
2. Remove the ambient temp sensor from the fan mounting bracket and discard it.
3. Use electrical tape or tie wraps to secure the connector to the fan wire harness.
4. The fan may still after-run for only one engine shut down due to the timer memory.
INSTALL APPROPRIATE VAPOR LOCK/FUEL FOAMING KIT (IF NOT PREVIOUSLY INSTALLED)
1. Refer to Technical Service Bulletin 18-24-86 REVISION A for installation instructions.
