Condenser HVAC: Service and Repair
CONDENSERREMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Discharge and recover the refrigerant. Refer to 'Discharging, Adding Oil, Evacuating, and Charging Procedures for A/C System".
3. Remove the radiator. Refer to Engine Cooling.
4. Remove the bolt that secures the liquid evaporator pipe connector block at the receiver-dryer.
5. Remove the nut that secures the liquid condenser pipe connector block at the receiver-dryer.
6. Loosen the receiver-dryer band clamp screw.
7. Remove the receiver-dryer.
8. Cap all the openings to prevent contamination.
9. Remove the A/C compressor discharge hose connector block nut.
10. Remove the upper condenser mount nuts and the washers.
11. Move the condenser to the rear, away from the radiator mount support.
12. Lift the condenser up and out of the engine compartment.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install new O-rings onto the receiver-dryer tube fittings.
2. Ensure that the condenser rubber mounts are in place.
3. Install the condenser into the vehicle. The lower mount shock protectors must fit into the holes provided.
4. Move the condenser forward into the radiator support mount holes.
5. Install the receiver-dryer.
6. Tighten the band clamp bolt.
7. Install the receiver-dryer to the condenser pipe connector block with the nut.
Tighten
Tighten the liquid condenser pipe connector block-to-receiver-dryer nut to 10 N.m (89 lb-in).
8. Install the receiver-dryer to the liquid evaporator pipe connector block with the bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the liquid evaporator pipe connector block-to-receiver-dryer bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb-in).
9. Install the upper mount nuts and the washers.
Tighten
Tighten the condenser upper mount nuts to 3 N.m (27 lb-in).
10. Install a new O-ring onto the A/C compressor discharge hose connector block filling.
11. Install the A/C compressor discharge hose to the condenser pipe connector block and install the retaining nut.
Tighten
Tighten the discharge hose-to-condenser pipe connector pipe retaining nut to 16 N.m (12 lb-ft).
12. Install the radiator. Refer to Engine Cooling.
13. Connect the negative battery cable.
14. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to "Discharging, Adding Oil, Evacuating, and Charging Procedures for A/C System".
