SYMPTOM/CONDITION
The most noticeable symptom of loss of throttle ground occurs after starting the engine. The engine will operate on high idle speed until the brake pedal is depressed, activating the back-up ground solenoid circuit.
Also, basic ignition timing may be observed to be erratic which will cause a rough idle complaint.
DIAGNOSIS
Start engine without stepping on brake pedal. If, after starting, the engine stays on high idle speed, depress brake pedal. After depressing brake pedal if engine rpm returns to normal idle speed, refer to repair procedure below:

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Remove support plate from throttle body.
2. Remove throttle body from intake manifold.
3. Remove throttle position sensor and bracket assembly from throttle body.
4. Disconnect A.I.S. link at throttle lever ball joint.
5. Remove the A.I.S. linkage.
6. Remove A.I.S. throttle follower arm.
NOTE: Extreme care must be taken not to bend throttle shaft. Resultant torque of loosening nut must be absorbed using the follower arm.
7. Install throttle follower arm with rivet assembly from kit. Install star terminal, new lock washer, and nut. Torque to 30 inch pounds (support torque using follower arm) and bend lock washer against flat on nut.
8. Clean face of brass contact terminal on A.I.S. linkage with fine sandpaper (400 grit) or steel wool. Apply thin coat of special anti-corrosion grease (provided in kit) to face of terminal and copper alloy rivet on throttle follower arm.
9. Reassemble A.I.S. linkage.
10. Reattach throttle position sensor and ground strap. Torque to 35 inch pounds.
11. Reinstall throttle body, support plate, and air cleaner assembly on engine.
12. Prior to performing Step 13 snap the throttle body linkage four times from wide open throttle to the curb idle position.
13. Reset curb idle speed per service manual specifications.
