Vacuum Brake Booster: Service and Repair



Power Vacuum Brake Booster Replacement

Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Caution (Brake Fluid Irritant Caution) .

Notice: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Notice (Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Notice) .




1. Remove the master cylinder assembly. Refer to Master Cylinder Replacement (Master Cylinder Replacement) .
2. Remove the knee bolster trim panel. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair) .
3. Remove the retaining clip for the pushrod for the brake booster.




4. Remove the clevis pin.
5. Remove the pushrod from the brake pedal.




6. Remove the mounting nuts for the brake booster.




7. Remove the brake booster from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the brake booster in the bulkhead.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

2. Install the mounting nuts for the brake booster.

Tighten the brake booster mounting nuts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

3. Install the pushrod on the brake pedal.




4. Install the clevis pin.




5. Install the retaining clip.
6. Adjust the stop lamp switch. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Adjustment (Adjustments) .
7. Adjust the cruise control release switch. Refer to Cruise Release Switch Adjustment (Adjustments) .
8. Install the knee bolster trim panel. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair) .
9. Install the master cylinder assembly. Refer to Master Cylinder Replacement (Master Cylinder Replacement) .
