Fuel Pressure Regulator: Service and Repair



FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.




2. Disconnect the fuel return hose/pipe (1) from the fuel rail.




3. Disconnect the atmospheric vent hose (2) from the fuel pressure regulator (3).




4. Clean any dirt from the fuel pressure regulator (3) and the surrounding area.
5. Remove the fuel pressure regulator screws (4, 5).
6. Pull the fuel pressure regulator (3) and O-ring seal (2) from the fuel rail (1).Discard the O-ring seal (2).
7. Pull the fuel rail return pipe (6) and O-ring seal (7) from the fuel pressure regulator (3). Discard the O-ring seal (7).
8. Inspect the regulator filter screen for contamination. If contaminated, replace the fuel pressure regulator.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the new fuel pressure regulator filter.
2. Lightly lubricate the O-ring seals (2, 7) with mineral oil GM P/N 9981704.
3. Install the new O-ring seals (2, 7) to the following:
- The fuel pressure regulator (3)
- The fuel rail return pipe (6)
4. Press the fuel rail return pipe (6) and O-ring seal (7) into the fuel pressure regulator (3).
5. Press the fuel pressure regulator (3) and O-ring seal (2) into the fuel rail (1).
6. Install the fuel pressure regulator screws (4, 5).

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Tighten the fuel pressure regulator screws to 8 N.m (71 lb in).




7. Connect the atmospheric vent hose (2) to the fuel pressure regulator (3).




8. Connect the fuel return hose/pipe (1) to the fuel rail.
9. Inspect for leaks.
1. Turn ON the ignition for 2 seconds.
2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
3. Turn ON the ignition.
4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
