Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement - RearRemoval Procedure
Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in Service Precautions.
Notice: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic's wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from it's mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.
1. Remove the caliper from the mounting bracket and support the caliper with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent. It is not necessary to disconnect the hydraulic brake flexible hose from the caliper.
2. Remove the brake caliper (3).
3. Remove the brake pads from the brake caliper bracket.
4. Remove the brake pad retainers from the brake caliper bracket (1).
5. Remove the brake caliper bracket bolts (2).
6. Remove the brake caliper bracket (1).
7. Remove the brake caliper bolt boots (3) from the brake caliper bracket (1).
8. Remove the brake caliper bolt bushings (4) from the brake caliper bracket (1).
9. Inspect and replace the brake caliper bracket if cracks or deformation damage exists.
10. Use a wire brush in order to clean away any rust and debris from the brake caliper bracket where the brake pads contact the brake caliper bracket.
11. Use a wire brush in order to clean away any rust and debris from the brake pads where the brake pads contact the brake caliper bracket,
Installation Procedure
Important: To ensure that the proper clamp load will be present when installed. It is imperative that the threads on the caliper bracket bolts, as well as the mounting holes in the knuckle, be cleaned of all debris and inspected before proceeding with installation.
Clean and visually inspect the threads of the caliper bracket bolts (2) and mounting holes in the knuckle.
1. Install the brake caliper bracket (1).
2. Apply Threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) or equivalent to the threads of the brake caliper bracket bolts (2).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the caliper bracket bolts.
- Tighten the bolts to 125 Nm (92 lb ft).
4. Install the brake pad retainers to the brake, caliper bracket.
5. Apply a thin coat of silicone grease GM P/N 18010909 (Canadian P/N 10953487) or equivalent to the brake pad retainers where the brake pads contact the brake pad retainers.
6. Lubricate the brake caliper bolt bushings (4) with silicone grease GM P/N 18010909 (Canadian P/N 10953487) or equivalent.
7. Install the brake caliper bolt bushings (4) to the brake caliper bracket.
8. Lubricate the brake caliper bolt boots (3) with silicone grease GM P/N 18010909 (Canadian P/N 10953487) or equivalent.
9. Install the brake caliper bolt boots to the brake caliper bracket.
10. Install the brake caliper.
