Starter Solenoid - Replacement Availability/Precautions

Availability of Starter Motor Solenoid If Damaged During Service

Models:
2001-2004 Chevrolet Silverado
2003-2004 Chevrolet Kodiak C4500/5500
2001-2004 GMC Sierra
2003-2004 GMC TopKick C4500/5500
with 6.6L Duramax(R) Diesel Engine (VIN 1 - RPO LB7)

The starter motor solenoid may be damaged during removal or installation of the S terminal nut.

Damage may be caused by excessive torque or side loading applied to the S terminal when removing or installing the solenoid wire.

The starter motor solenoid is available separate from the starter motor assembly. Replace the starter motor solenoid using published service procedures and torque the S terminal nut to specifications, 3.4 N.m (30 lb in), as shown in the Engine Electrical section of the Service Information.
